About Westminster

In the book of Acts, the work of the early Christian church is described as teaching, fellowship, the breaking of bread, and prayer.  At Westminster Presbyterian Church in DeKalb, Illinois, we take this idea about the church’s work to heart. We care about instructing children and adults in their faith, about nurturing one another through prayer and worship, and having a fellowship life that lets everyone know they have an important place in God’s family.

Our faith impacts the way we act in the world as we look for ways to follow Christ’s command to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and embrace those forgotten and disenfranchised. Westminster has many opportunities to serve others through our time and our donations.

We hope you will join us in worship as a sibling in Christ or as someone who is simply interested in learning more about the Christian faith.

Mission Statement

God, our Creator, calls Westminster Presbyterian Church to share Christ’s transforming love. We strive to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ through worship, prayer, learning, service, and fellowship. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, we seek to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God.

Inclusivity Statement

In affirmation of God’s boundless love and grace, Westminster Presbyterian Church believes we are led
by the Holy Spirit to be an inclusive and supportive community for all who seek to develop their faith in
Jesus Christ. We welcome everyone who professes faith into full participation in the church community,
including worship and sacraments, marriage, and ordination as elders, deacons, and ministers. People of
all races, ethnic backgrounds, ages, gender identities, sexual orientations, abilities, socioeconomic
statuses, personal, political, or social philosophies, and any other situations in life are included and
supported in our church community.

Our History

Westminster Presbyterian Church started as a new church development project in 1964.

After meeting in the local Masonic Hall for a few years, the congregation built on its present site in 1968. Westminster was formed with a concern for campus ministry, community mission, fellowship, and education. These aspects of ministry are still an important part of the character of Westminster.

Throughout its history Westminster has grown to meet the needs of the growing DeKalb/Sycamore area. Starting in 2001 with the election of a building committee Westminster began work on its newest addition. The construction/remodeling project included a new sanctuary, a new parking area, new classrooms, and renovation of our existing space. The project was dedicated in May of 2005.
